Switch Axe by Obsidian-Asphodel Switch Axe by Obsidian-Asphodel
here it is
my switch axe
40Lbs
8ft long
took a few months of wood shop at school
cost $45 for materials

I designed the workings and mechanisms of the movement
but the concept i found in Monster Hunter Tri
this isn't a game replica
this is a functional weapon realization

Okay I've had some questions of the workings of this so i'm gonna break it down step by step

from whichever position it is in:

1-grab the more rounded pin in the middle of the plate connected to the axe blade

2-pull the pin right out
-stick the pin in the dark hole above and to the left of the three holes

3- using that pin push the axe head forward on an angle

--4--now if it is a sword you have to flip the blade around to the back, this can be accomplished with an exaggerated flick of the wrists
5-after flicking the blade back slide the axe head up

--4--If it is an axe slide the axe head down, it runs on pins stuck into two channels on the center frame
5-now flick the sword blade forward

6- pull the axe head backward

7- remove the pin from the forward hole and reinsert into the original hole
This pin goes through most all of the layers and locks everything into place

you have now changed the sword/axe into an axe/sword

It's alright.
But in all honesty, do you think you can share the blue prints of how you made this? I'm sure people would be willing to pay good money for you do so. Heck, you might be able to make a really good profit building these things for people!

the lower half of the page is all the original sketches and some 3D models

And I don't really think I would want to spend that much time working on switch axes to sell them
plus any profit would be lost in the considerable postage fees
there aren't enough interested parties to sell them locally

Darn. Oh well. Maybe if i'm able to somehow learn several years of woodshop, I might be able to make this myself!

Maybe.

Probably...

... Okay, it's a long shot...

You could try and make it out of foam board or something
40lbs of pine wood isn't really the easiest way to go about making a switch axe

That could work. I should look into it

Hell, maybe a few hundred dollars could fall out of the sky and I could try to make a full scale, actually sharp, steel switchaxe in my machining class.

Bleeding thing will probably also be several hundred pounds heavy as well.

I'm trying to come up with one in steel myself
I have enough available materials
but I was trying to get it reasonably light
which is proving more than difficult

What I've never really understood was. What is practical aplication of having a sword that turns into an axe, isn't one or the other just as good?

Personal preference I guess
and admittedly there is probably a considerable intimidation factor
imagine someone running at you with a huge sword that just started flipping around and turned into an axe
wouldn't that freak you out more that a regular sword or axe?

In game it's actually the weapon I'm best with
i can barely kill any of the big guys with anything other than a switch axe,
or one of the huge samurai sword things

I could never get the lance, great sword, sword with shield, or hammer to work well,
and the bowguns took over most of the time limits to kill the later monsters

my personal best weapons is the hammer you just charge up and aim for the head!, if your playing multiplayer when the monster is stunned you use the charge spin inbetween its legs and try to trip it. (thats what i do anyway)
